A Little of Everything

Today's posting will have quilting, cards, AND personal ramblings. A little bit of everything! :-)

First, the quilt. This is the quilt front that I made at my last quilt retreat. I decided I should probably have it quilted before the next retreat in March so I'll have something for 'Show and Tell'. So I laid it out and measured it (54x71 inches). I was hoping for a full size quilt and thought this was big enough. But now I'm thinking I may want to add a border or two. The pictures here are taken on my queen size bed and it ALMOST covers the top of the mattress but not quite and there is no overhang. So I'm thinking of adding a thin white border and then a thicker solid color border. And finishing it with white binding and backing. Thoughts???

Next I wanted to share a few cards I've received. The first two are birthday cards sent from my fellow Internet stampers...Darlene from TheStampersUnite yahoo group and Melanie from Splitcoaststampers. Thank you ladies! It was really hard to get a picture of Melanie's frog card. It has some great texture and glitter but in the picture it just looks like psycho frog. Sorry about that!



Next up is a card I received from VA for a swap on our ArizonaStampers yahoo group. She made an easel card. I've never made one and am going to have to try my hand at it. It's pretty cool! Thank you for sending me such a unique card!



And lastly...I thought I'd share what Dakota and his friend were up to this afternoon. This is what is in my kitchen right now...



This should explain why I will NOT be keeping the white quilt for myself! LOL. My quilts often end up on the floor or as part of a fort.

Birthday Cards from Others

Thought I'd share some of the cards that I've received over the past couple weeks. I appreciate everyone's birthday wishes and it was a LOT of fun getting "real" mail in the mailbox for a change! LOL.

This first card is from Melanie (aka batgirl on SCS).


I love how she did the presents with different patterned papers. What a great way to use up all those scraps of paper. Right now she has some great craft fair ideas posted on her blog HERE.

The second card is from Fancy on SCS.


The third card is from my SBS4 sister Marcia...all the way from Australia. You can visit here HERE on her blog. I love the white on the lettering. It really gives it some great dimension.


The fourth card is from another one of my SBS4 sister's...Chris...this comes to me via Canada. Unfortunately, it lost on of it's "baubles" in-route...but is very pretty nonetheless. I love the little glittery centers on the flowers! (Oh...and the dark purple is the color of my PT Cruiser!) You can visit here HERE at her blog.


The fifth card is from an online friend, Bonnie, who doesn't have a blog yet (imagine THAT!) I think she needs one to share her artwork. I love the color wash over the main image here and the white on the piano keys. And...once again...it's the color of my Cruiser. Can't go wrong there!


The sixth card is from another of my SBS4 sisters...Sparkle! She does absolutely amazing work...this card is one of the simpler ones I've seen her do. The seventh card is a BRAK (Birthday Random Act of Kindness) from Gina L. She said she chose to send a card to me because we share the same birthday! Very cool! I love the pink and brown color combo she used.


And lastly (at least for now) is a card I received from Crystal. I really like this layout and may use it as a sketch to make some of my own cards in the future.

Happy Sunday!

Good morning everyone! It's a bright and shining day here. Probably actually HOT if I went outside...but I'm staying inside today! LOL!

I'm trying to decided what to create for my Design Team application. I would like to do something that is a little different than a basic layout. Maybe a scrapbook in a box? Or one layout and a few altered items? I can't decide and I'm afraid to cut into the paper! Maybe I'll sneak back by the store and try to find the same papers just so I'll have some to cut into and try different things with before I settle on something. I also sent and email with some questions (like can I add some items that I know they carry in the store but aren't in the packet). I'll want to add some ribbon if I'm altering things...and I'll need to make a title for the page somehow.

I don't think I posted a picture yet of my Secret Pal package for this month. So here were my goodies! Lots of paper flowers, some chipboard, a filing kit (I think this is used to file/sand the edges of the chipboard after you add paper to them?), and a few other goodies. My SS is very good at spoiling me and WAY better at getting these packages out in the mail than I am. I'm always late it seems. But I always come through.

I created these pages at Scrap Camp over the summer. They are of my son Dakota's 6th birthday party. He's 7 now...shhhhh! Don't tell anyone I'm a year behind...ok? Remember...to view it larger just click on the photo!

These were taken at a place called Justin's Water World that's been around forever. It's an old fashioned water park. Unfortunately, this past summer they closed it down for good. Dakota wanted to have his 7th birthday there and was so bummed that he couldn't. Glad I have lots of pics!

Whew..it's hot, hot, hot!

Only 109 degrees here today. Ugh. Went into town and ran errands so stopped at about 8 places. You never get a chance to cool down because the a/c never gets a chance to run long enough. Left about 11:00 this morning and got home about 4:00. And I have to go to PTO meeting at 5:00. I really just want to go strip off all my clothes and lay under the ceiling fan! Ugh. Every summer I say I'm going to move - but I doubt I ever will.

Onto some more exciting things.

First off...I received a package in the mail today. I assume it's from my secret sister. They put their name on the package and it doesn't SAY that it's my SS but I have no idea why anyone else would be sending me goodies (unless I won blog candy?) Anyways, here is the bounty I recieved! A beautiful card made with ALCOHOL INKS, 2 containers of gorgeous ribbons, and a package of chipboard flowers! Great stuff!



Today I stopped by Michael's (it wouldn't be a trip into town unless I at least stopped there!) I had a 40% off coupon so picked out a package of pin backs for my dominoes and then saw they had some sizzix stuff on sale. I REALLY want an alphabet set and they had a couple marked 50% off. So I decided to get one. When I got home I checked my receipt and they took the 40% off the clearanced price. So I got a ganga deal! And my first sizzlet's alphabet set...grafitti! It has the upper and lower case and numbers plus shadows for all of them. Pretty cool.

I also mailed off an envelope to my secret pal. I can't say what was in it (because she comes to my blog I think) but it contained paper items weighing less than 2.5 ounces and fit in a regular envelope. Yet, it cost between $3 and $4 to mail it to Austrailia! Geesh! It was .90 for a one ounce envelope. I'm surprised such a little addition would cause such a big increase in the shipping! I thought I'd send smaller envelopes more often - but maybe I need to rethink that and just send the monthly packages.

And, on another front, here is a card to share that I made using my new House Mouse stamp! It opens on the side (under the little semi circle). I like how it turned out. I hate that these take so much coloring...but they are SO worth it!



Ok...gotta run. Less than 15 minutes to the PTO meeting.
